Sophie in the hospital

Another day...

Steve and I went to see Sophie last night before I had to go to work. She's feeling better I think. More of a sparkle to her eyes. We took her outside to take care of business and she was walking pretty well. I feel so sorry for her, the incision is about 6" long, all the way from her breastbone down about as far as it could go. She was hooked up to an IV and in a nice soft bed before we came - but she was sure excited to see us! I'm a little concerned that she threw up before we went outside, but I'm hoping it was just because the pain medication can make her a little sick to her stomach. I'd hate to think we put her through the for nothing!

I worked from 7 p.m. until just now. We have mandatory 5 hours of OT - again. The money is nice, but I'm so tired when we have to do that. I was still working alone at 5 a.m., I'm wondering if Barb is having computer problems again. Don't get me started. lol! Amanda and Barb both had computer problems Monday and of course there aren't any extras - just in case something happens. It's not like our computers have a stellar track record. Something is always happening to someone or other. There is supposed to be a spare since MRT quit, I don't know why they couldn't give that one to one of them. Probably gave it to some other department in the hospital when they decided not to hire someone to take MRT's place. Pffffttttt...

I've got some RAOGK stuff to look up downtown at the library and I just don't feel like driving downtown when I finally do haul myself out of bed. Rats. Look at me, I'm already dreading going downtown and I haven't even got to bed yet! lol!

Amber came over tonight to print her Christms cards. They're so cute! She photoshopped a picture of her cute little family on to a picture of the family in "The Christmas Story" - too cute! I waited until she sat down to tell her I talked to Missy today. I was afraid she'd faint.

I've got to get some sleep, later!

Emma Grace

I forgot with all the drama with Sophie this week that we have a new great-niece... Emma Grace was born in the ambulance in a Kroeger parking lot in Memphis on November 29, weighing in at a hefty 7 pounds 15 ounces at 21 inches long! Congrats to mom and dad - Amy and Mike, and big sisters and brother, Alec, Madison, Lydia, and Gabe! Welcome to the family, Emma, I'm looking forward to seeing pictures of you soon!

Sophie Update

Well, we bit the bullet and Sophie had her surgery. No tumors or obvious cancer, but she did have 2 enlarged mesenteric lymph nodes which were biopsied to rule out lymphoma. Poor little sweetheart is in a lot of pain. Her entire abdomen was inflamed from something - the vet doesn't know what. He said he'd never seen such a thing in his 20 years of doing surgery. Plus, with the barium, nothing would pass into her stomach, yet there was no indication of a blockage during the surgery. So, it's still touch and go for her.

NOW - Toby has his first bladder infection, which for a paralyzed dog is remarkable, they're very prone to bladder and kidney infections since they can't completely empty their bladders on their own. He's on antibiotics and believe it or not - cranberry juice. He loves drinking cranberry juice. If it's good for a human's bladder infection maybe it will help him too? We'll see.

At this rate, I think I should see if the vet has any job openings so I can work off some of the debt, but I just couldn't put her down for a bowel obtruction, unless of course it was obviously cancer. The vet and I had a long talk before he did the surgery this morning and I feel like I did the right thing. So.... That's it for the medical status of the fur kids!

Sick furbaby

Well, the news on Sophie isn't very encouraging. She started out with bronchitis last week, but then started vomiting and not being able to poop. The vet that we really like saw her yesterday and did x-rays. There wasn't an obvious obstruction on the x-ray, but that really wasn't conclusive to today she had to go back and have x-rays with barium to see where the blockage is. I'm pretty sure we're going to have to put her down if there is a blockage, the surgery is more than we can afford right now with all the other stuff that's been going on, so... Plus, Dr. J said the last time he had a dog with these symptoms the blockage turned out to be a cancerous tumor, they did a bowel resection, and the dog died a week later anyway. I'm just about sick, I've been crying so much. Didn't sleep very much last night either. It's only been 2 years this month since we had to put Charlie down and this is HARD. I'll hear from the vet later today and then post an update. Please pray for my Sophie.
