Matt Damon is an idiot

I saw a YouTube video today of Matt Damon blasting away at Sarah Palin - and making himself look like a moron in the process. He says he knows nothing about her and probably won't know anything about her in 3 weeks. What? He can't read. He can't be proactive and find out what makes her tick? Stupid. Then he makes some comment about her being a hockey mom, like she's going to use what she learned at hockey games to be VP. That's pretty obtuse Matt. I think what she's saying is if anyone makes the effort to learn the issues and get involved in politics they can, like - oh no, even a hockey mom! I'm thinkin' Matt, since you seem to know so freaking much about running a country maybe YOU should run for an elected office and see how many people vote for you. I always get my dander up when Hollywood "stars" start spouting their theory about politics. Like they know so much more than the average person who actually makes it a point to read about the candidates and make an informed decision. Of course Matt Damon doesn't know anything about Sarah Palin - how in the world would their paths cross in any way - except maybe they were both in People magazine the same month. Hollywood actors and actresses don't live in the same world as everyone else. They may get to go to parties and fund raisers for politicians, but apparently they can't read or find out information about the person's abilities on their own. I can imagine why they do it, some start struck ninny who thinks Matt Damon rules the universe will never vote for Sarah Palin because Matt says so. Unfortunately, I think there are way too many idiots in this country who think like that. BTW, didn't quite a few celebrities threaten to move to Canada if Bush were elected? I didn't see any mass exodus. Too bad.

Alone again...

Last night was my coworker's last night. Today we had a meeting at the hospital, so I manged to get some OT - but while we were all in the meeting the doctors had a field day and dictated like mad. I couldn't believe it when I got home and logged on. I got 2-1/2 hours of OT today because of the meeting, yet only worked an hour less actually typing and still didn't make a dent. My director asked me at the meeting today if I thought I could handle nights by myself... I think she's gone stark raving mad. Nights really are busy! Most docs don't dictate until after their office hours - except the operative reports, of course. We also type notes for a pulmonology clinic, pain clinic and infectious disease clinic, which usually isn't bad, but today for some reason both the pulmonologist and infectious diseases docs had their clinics on the same day. Oy! I didn't even get the inpatient stuff done and I'm beat! We're down to only 4 full-time transcriptionists from 6 a year ago. Hopefully the higher ups will decide soon about the voice recognition and/or upgrade and 4 will be enough. The job opening for the gal who quit today is only going to be occasional, not full time, so I'm wondering what's going to happen. In the meantime I imagine I'll be sucking up the OT as long as my back can take it!

It feels good to be sitting in bed and updating my blog! I've missed a laptop. I meant to take some pictures, but haven't gotten that done yet... I will! Just color me very happy in the meantime.

I can't remember if I posted about Steve's path report or not, so forgive me if I did, but it came back showing a low probability for malignancy - whew! We dodged the bullet that time, but having this whole incident happen has made a couple of us sit back and take stock of what's going on in our lives and maybe come to the realization that we're not going to be around forever. I've talked to Marc and Mel about it and we'll see what happens in the coming months. It should be interesting - one way or another! As far as Steve goes, he still has to go have scopes every 3 months for probably a year and then every 6 months. The doc said low probability is not the same as benign, but almost as good. He also took some muscle from around the edges of the tumor and those all came back clean, so even if it was benign it hadn't spread. Whoo!

I'll be glad when he can retire next year and maybe we can downsize on the house. I love this house, it's actually my dream house, but it's way to big for the two of us. If nothing else, I realized with this little health scare that I do NOT want to take care of this house on my own. It's too big and the yard is too big. Good for a family, but not for just the two of us. Hey, if it weren't for the 7 dogs, I'd go back to an apartment - but Steve loves his yard. Hopefully the housing market will improve in the coming months and we'll actually make some money! Too bad we can't make what the county says our house is worth! Someone in the tax assessors office is out of their mind!

I had to order a new battery charger/power supply for my Kindle - one of the dogs ate the end of it, while it was plugged in. Good think it's only 2 volts! I have to be more careful about leaving things plugged it! Anyway, the new one came today and I'm finally able to recharge it and read the books I downloaded last week.

Our weather has been gorgeous! I actually turned the furnace on night before last when it was 64 in the house. Brrr... It's warmed up a little, but still below 80 for the second week in a row! Rain coming tomorrow - I'm sure of it. My ankle is giving me grief tonight. So much for the Weather Channel!

That's it for now. I'm going to try to get to sleep early so I can get up in the morning and work a little. One person is off, so there's only one person working and I left a mess tonight!

Politicians

I got this in my e-mail today and thought it was a great article. I already shared it with most of my family, but thought I'd post it here too since it bears repeating - especially with the election coming up and everybody and their uncle promising us the moon.

Bipartisan/Nonpartisan Viewpoint: 545 PEOPLE
By Charlie Reese

Politicians are the only people in the world who create problems and then campaign against them. Have you ever wondered why, if both the Democrats and the Republicans are against deficits, we have deficits? Have you ever wondered why, if all the politicians are against inflation and high taxes, we have inflation and high taxes?

You and I don't propose a federal budget. The president does. You and I don't have the Constitutional authority to vote on appropriations. The House of Representatives does. You and I don't write the tax code, Congress does. You and I don't set fiscal policy, Congress does. You and I don't control monetary policy, the Federal Reserve Bank does.

One hundred senators, 435 congressmen, one president, and nine Supreme Court justices 545human beings out of the 300 million are directly, legally, morally, and individually responsible for the domestic problems that plague this country. I excluded the members of the Federal Reserve Board because that problem was created by the Congress. In 1913, Congress delegated its Constitutional duty to provide a sound currency to a federally chartered, but private, central bank. I excluded all the special interests and lobbyists for a sound reason. They have no legal authority. They have no ability to coerce a senator, a congressman, or a president to do one cotton- picking thing. I don't care if they offer a politician $1 million dollars in cash. The politician has the power to accept or reject it. No matter what the lobbyist promises, it is the legislator's responsibility to determine how he votes.

Those 545 human beings spend much of their energy convincing you that what they did is not their fault. They cooperate in this common con regardless of party. What separates a politician from a normal human being is an excessive amount of gall. No normal human being would have the gall of a Speaker, who stood up and criticized the President for creating deficits. The president can only propose a budget. He cannot force the Congress to accept it. The Constitution, which is the supreme law of the land, gives sole responsibility to the House of Representatives for originating and approving appropriations and taxes.

Who is the speaker of the House? She is the leader of the majority party. She and fellow House members, not the president, can approve any budget they want. If the president vetoes it, they can pass it over his veto if they agree to. It seems inconceivable to me that a nation of 300 million can not replace 545 people who stand convicted -- by present facts -- of incompetence and irresponsibility. I can't think of a single domestic problem that is not traceable directly to those 545 people.

When you fully grasp the plain truth that 545 people exercise the power of the federal government, then it must follow that what exists is what they want to exist. If the tax code is unfair, it's because they want it unfair. If the budget is in the red, it's because they want it in the red. If the Marines are in Iraq, it's because they want them in Iraq. If they do not receive social security but are on an elite retirement plan not available to the people, it's because they want it that way. There are no insoluble government problems.

Do not let these 545 people shift the blame to bureaucrats, whom they hire and whose jobs they can abolish; to lobbyists, whose gifts and advice they can reject; to regulators, to whom they give the power to regulate and from whom they can take this power. Above all, do not let them con you into the belief that there exists disembodied mystical forces like 'the economy,' 'inflation,' or 'politics' that prevent them from doing what they take an oath to do.

Those 545 people, and they alone, are responsible. They, and they alone, have the power. They, and they alone, should be held accountable by the people who are their bosses provided the voters have the gumption to manage their own employees. We should vote all of them out of office and clean up their mess!

Holy... whatever.

I can't even believe I read this. After I read the story I noticed a link to a video. I'm speechless.

Omaha, NE - Funeral services were held Friday for 17-year-old Joshua Wayland. He was killed when a truck carrying 95-thousand pounds of rock smashed into his car at Highways 370 and 50 last week. The family invited Action 3 News to the funeral.

It was not the typical atmosphere many would expect at a funeral. A band rocked out on stage with kids and adults dancing below, all while a 17-year-old was lying motionless in a casket.
Hundreds of friends and family filled the sancuary at Liberty Christian Center for Joshua Wayland's funeral service. It was a time to remember and honor the teen.

"There's not one moment that I was with him that he was not making me laugh or making me smile," said one of Josh's friends.

Saying goodbye wasn't easy. At one point, the pastor approached the casket, leaned in and called Josh back to life. "It's time for you to wake up Josh," said Pastor McGaffin. "It's time for you to wake up. It's time for you to breathe. It's time for your eyes to open."

For some it was too much, and they left. But Jim McGaffin, head pastor at the church, tells Action 3 News he believes Josh died too soon and he should still be alive. Others felt the same way.
"Joshua come forth!" pleaded one person over his casket.

Josh's family prayed by his open casket, even hours after the service ended, hoping for a miracle.

OH yeah! Welcome to my new baby!

Lest you think I all I can do is complain... Welcome to my new baby - an HP laptop that my brother sent me. It's great! I haven't had time to play with it very much today, it took me forever to figure out how to connect to the internet (well, duh!). I'm looking forward to getting off tonight and having a chance to play with it. It's very cool. Thanks Marc!

Huh? Could you repeat that please?

Steve has a very good friend who has been up in Alaska caribou hunting for the last couple of weeks. He lives about 2 hours away from Omaha, so he stayed with us the night before he left and Steve took him to the airport so he could leave his car with us while he was gone. I noticed when he left that he had written down is arrival information on an envelope, so I put it on the bulletin board so it wouldn't get lost. It would have been better off lost. Now, before I say anything more, I have to say this is a smart man. He's a neuropsychologist, a doctor, and I've known him for a long time. He IS intelligent. However, this is the note that he left.

"Flight back from AK - North West (sic) Air #153, arrive Omaha 7:24 p.m. 09/08/2008, Tuesday" (He underlined Tuesday. When I put this away I thought, "I thought Northwest flight numbers were 4 digits... I must be wrong". Well, he called Steve the other night to reiterate he would be home on the 8th, Tuesday. Well, Steve didn't realize the 8th was Monday until I reminded him. Uh oh. Steve thought he'd just go out to the airport tonight and see if he had looked on his ticket and realized the 8th was Monday. But... We looked up Northwest flight #153. No such number. All the flight numbers are 4 digits long. Great. How about a plane arriving in Omaha from Minneapolis at 7:24? Nope. Sigh. So I checked from Fairbanks to Omaha. Well yes, flight 1020 arrives at 7:50. Maybe that was it. Steve called his friend in Fairbanks to see he left today or not. The phone number we have is hooked up to a fax. Heavy sigh. We've given up, I imagine he'll call from the airport. Whenever he gets here.
