Saturday in the park...

Not really, didn't set foot in a park today, but it was a gorgeous day! A little breezy, but that's spring time to me, so I didn't mind at all!

Amber made it home from the hospital today in plenty of time to attend Ryan's birthday party, which was great fun! She took it easy and Great-Grandma Luneke was more than willing to take care of Vince, that was no problem. I can't believe Ryan is a year old already - I don't know where the time goes anymore, it just flies by. I know I've said that before, but when you watch these little ones be born and then grow up, it just boggles my mind. It seems like just the other day my kids and their cousins were babies, and now their babies are having birthdays! Whew, it makes my head spin!

Ryan got lots and lots of new clothes and some toys. He's such a solemn little boy, but his daddy can sure make him giggle! It was so good to see Tony too - only 4 more months to go in Cuba. He's lost about 20 pounds, but he's very muscular, definitely not the same "boy" that joined the army!

I can't get my Rebel camera to work... GRRRRR, and for some reason I can't get the PowerShot to download the pictures I took today, but when I get that figured out, I'll be downloading some new pictures of the babies. I got some good pictures of Charlene with Vince too, so I'll have to try and get those to her before they leave. John got a great picture of Tony with the monkey dishes I got Ryan, it was a pretty funny pictures, I hope I can get a copy from them. I think now that they have 2 great-grandbabies here in Omaha they might come back more than once a year. I really like them, they're such nice people and I enjoy spending time with them. I really hate it when divorce takes people you like out of the family. I'm glad I still get to see them through Amber and Tony at least. Emily and AJ look great too, I haven't seen them for a while. Hey AJ - if you read this, don't you think you've been dating Emily long enough? I'm thinking it's about time for another wedding! ;-)

My hands are so hot tonight, they're uncomfortable, I'm thinking a flare is in the works. Oh goodie, I haven't had one for over a month, I'm due for a good one I guess. We're supposed to have rain tonight, so I'm not sure if it's weather related or stress related. After yesterday, I'm more inclined to think it's the stress!

It's General Conference weekend and I forgot to record both sessions today. (That's using the old noodle, Mindi...) I have, however, remembered to set the DVR for tomorrow's sessions, so I can watch them if I feel like getting out of bed. They're on a digital channel this time, and I don't have a converter in the bedroom, so I can't watch unless I get up. It's going to be so odd to watch and not have President Hinckley presiding. I miss him and his style of leadership. He also had a dry sense of humor that I'll miss. It'll just be strange not to have him there. One of these years I'm really going to make it to Salt Lake for conference. Really, I am. That's on my bucket list!

I also have to remind Steve to set the recorder downstairs to record Kountze for Marc. I don't even try to mess with that recorder, you either have to be a preschooler or a college graduate to get that thing to work. If you're anywhere in between you won't be able to figure it out! LOL!

Later.

Apples to Apples

Meg being coy about what's in her hand.

That's Matt, trying to look like he's thinking. It's not working.

Sue seems to be perplexed by the whole thing.

Which one shall I take, which one shall I take...?

Actually this is a really fun game, I might have to invest in it for myself.

Meg told me to put the plant somewhere. Unfortunately (or fortunately - depending on how you look at it) my head is too round to support a plant.

Crazy Day

Today was some day! First, it was my Friday to work alone since Maureen worked last weekend. I hate these Fridays. Seems like all the doctors seem to do their catch up dictation on the Fridays I'm by myself and today was no exception. The regular pulmonary doctor is on an extended vacation and there's another East Indian guy covering for him. Sigh. I can't understand this guy, he has a different dictation style, his accent is different, and he talks very rapidly. Ugh. He dictated about 15 reports today, so I've spent the majority of the evening trying to muddle though his stuff. They aren't long, but I just can't understand him! It's so annoying to spend 10 minutes on a report and then find out it was only 7-10 lines. Frustration!

Amber called this morning about 8:30, although I didn't find out it was her until later. Steve answered the phone and I heard him say I was sleeping, but I was really too tired to care who it was. I got up around 10 or so and noticed from the caller ID that it had been Amber, so I called her back to see what was going on that she'd call that early, she knows I work until midnight, so I figured something was going on. She said she was sick and asked me if I'd take her to the emergency room or urgent care. Of course I said yes, so I just jumped into some sweats and off I went to pick her up. She thought she had the flu or maybe food poisoning since she had gone out to lunch the day before with 4 other people from work and 2 of them also were sick the night before. Made sense to me. Jason had taken the day off to take Vince in for his first set of shots, so he couldn't take her to the hospital, I sure didn't have a problem running her up there.

When we got the ER the triage nurse noted her blood pressure was low, so she said they were going to keep her for a bit. She thought maybe Amber was just a little dehydrated since she hadn't been feeling well and hadn't had enough to drink. I figured they'd give her an IV and send her home. What I didn't count on was how busy the stupid ER was on a Friday at 11 a.m.! I felt so sorry for Amber, the nurse hands her a gown and tells her the rooms are all full, so she's going to have to lay on a gurney in the hallway. Not a quiet hallway either - they must have brought the portable x-ray machine though that hall 5 times - and I'm not exaggerating, while we were there. To top it all off, they didn't even give her a blanket! About noon or so I called Mel, because there were a couple errands I had to run before work, so I asked her if she'd mind coming up to sit with Amber while she waited for a doctor (and a room!). Mel didn't mind and she was out at NW precinct anyway stuffing her face at a going away party for that secretary, so it wasn't too long until she got there and took over guard duty from me.

I ran to Wal-Mart and got a new vacuum (YAY!) and then on to the grocery store because a little bee told me steaks sounded good for dinner, picked up a couple filets and got home in time to grab a couple chips and guac and then start work at 3:30.

I didn't even get to start working before my cell phone rang and it was Mel. Amber had appendicitis and they were going to take her to surgery! Of all the things I thought were going to happen, that sure wasn't one of them! I logged out and got to the hospital to be with Amber while Mel ran home to find Adam, who was late getting home from school and wasn't answering the phone... Jason brought Vince up to the hospital so Amber could see him before they took her into surgery, what a crazy afternoon!

Poor little Vince wasn't feeling the best, having gotten 3 shots, but I have to say he was a little good little guy in the surgery waiting room. He let us know he was less than pleased to be drug around when he'd rather be home snoozing, but all he all he settled in nice and snug in his daddy's arms and slept the majority of the time. Occasionally he'd stretch his legs and then he howl a little, but he was a good boy. I have to mention (take note, Jason), that at the doctor today Vince weighed 13 pounds 10 ounces, was 24 inches long and had a head circumference of 40 cm. He's off the growth chart for his height, in the 100th percentile for his weight, and the doctor said his head is perfectly symmetrical - it's the most perfect head she's ever seen! Doesn't sound like a proud dad told me that, does it?

By the time Amber got out of surgery, Jason (and Vince, of course), Mel, AJ, Dan (Amber's dad), and Amber's grandparents were at the hospital, so I figured I could leave. What could possibly happen with that group standing guard? She was going to be in recovery for an hour and I really had to get back to work. (ho hum)

I talked to her a couple of times tonight and she's feeling much, much better. I think it'll be awhile before she eats at a Mongolian grill again, though! ha ha!

As for everything else that's going on, the weather was beautiful, but from the sound of it, that's not going to last - again. It's supposed to be 70 tomorrow, but then back in the 40s for another week. I'm not even going to comment about it. You all know how I feel about THAT! The kids (human and fur) are doing well, and Steve brewed his Christmas beer for next winter today. The new vacuum is great, (I (heart) my Eureka!) and for the first time in months, I think my carpet is really clean. Thank goodness the old one broke. Steve hates to replace anything if the old one still works - if vacuum cleaners had distributor caps that thing would have been long gone - but I couldn't figure out how to kill it. We got it used from his aunt 15 years ago - yikes!

I guess I need to try to get some sleep, Meg is coming over in the morning and we have to do some shopping. I just realized however, that I didn't take my meds today, so I'm wondering how successful my attempt at sleeping is going to be. I thought my back was hurting more than usual. Duh.

Wednesday - already? ha ha

I did go to the hospital to work last night. What doesn't seem like a long drive in the daytime takes forever at night when you're tired. I'm glad I don't have to do that very often.

I forgot to mention Mother Nature played an April Fool joke on us yesterday, we woke up to snow - again. It wasn't much and it didn't last, but it does explain why I couldn't sleep the night before. Probably the sound of those darn snowflakes hitting the side of the house... ha ha

So far today everything seems to be working well. (Knock on wood.) I'm going to get to work in about an hour or so, get some OT in on this check. It was kind of fun working at the hospital last night. Being a small hospital it's very quiet at night, even with visitors coming and going, it's almost eerie. I did have a good time working with the girls who do the scanning at night, they're a hoot. I even managed to get some work done in spite of having fun with them, having no speed keys, and using a regular keyboard. (I forgot my disk with my speed key file on it - and for some reason I thought there was an ergonomic keyboard up there.) I can't hardly type without my ergonomic keyboard, my wrists hurt like the devil when I got home. I don't think I'll forget that next time.

It's still cloudy today, but warmer than yesterday. It didn't hit 40 yesterday, and it's 46 already. Our average for this time of year is 60, so we're still below average, but it's starting to feel better. Maybe one of these nights I'll take one of the wool blankets off the bed...

The new router finally arrived yesterday too, so we got the other computers back up and running. I finally got my mp3 player to download from Rhapsody. Things are looking up!

Well, I guess that's it for now. I've got some stuff to get done before I start work. Later.

Does the fun ever end?

I took my computer up to the hospital yesterday. I still can't figure out why we have to go to the hospital to change our network password, but we do. I thought it wouldn't take long - wrong. I was there for nearly 2 hours. I changed the password, but they they wanted to make sure I could get logged into everything - why I wouldn't when all I did was change the password is beyond me. This involved them downloading Tango on my computer so I could log in to their internet, then when I logged into all my programs to make sure I still could, they had to uninstall Tango... Sigh.

Then, I got home and got my computer set back up and guess what? No VPN! I was about ready to scream, seriously. Then I realized Steve had been messing around in my office and I had the wrong cable plugged into the computer. Whew. Uh oh. Still no cable. I was thinking some not so nice thoughts about the MIS guys when I called to tell them I couldn't log in, when I found out the hospital internet was down, that's why I couldn't log in! WHEW! I have to mention that my CPU is one of those huge old things that weighs too much and I wasn't looking forward to dragging that back to the hospital AGAIN.

Then today at 3:30 I come back to my office, try to log in, and can't connect to the VPN again. What the heck? I called the hospital, sure enough, their internet is down again. Apparently this time it has to do with Alltel and something happening "down south" whatever that means. It's been down now for about 2-1/2 hours and if it stays down for another hour I have to drive up to Fremont to work. Lovely. Can't wait. I'm glad I couldn't sleep this morning and worked for 1-1/2 hours already today. If I get to the hospital and work for another 4-1/2 that doesn't leave an unmanageable amount of time to make up. Granted it's their fault and I don't think I should have to use my PTO, but I'm thinking they're not going to see it that way. Plus, I have to buy gas. Ugh. We're so far behind at work too, it isn't funny. And right now doctors are dictating their little hearts out and there's one person working at the hospital. No one else can even go in if they wanted to, can you believe we only have one work station set up in medical records with access to the typing program. I know we talked in a meeting several months ago about getting another workstation set up, but apparently they haven't done it. Double Ugh. I'm going to go find some dinner in case I have to make the trek north. Wish me luck.

Stuck in the middle with Steve

We went out to breakfast at WheatField's this morning with some friends of ours, well, actually 3 other couples, but one couple in particular we've been close to. Steve had worked with Allen in the engineering department years ago when he first started working at Conagra and we've kept in touch. We found out this morning that he's transferring to Washtington (state that is, and they're leaving in 2 weeks). Damn and double damn. We've had a lot of fun with them over the years and I'm really going to miss them. Another couple (the husband is retired from Conagra) is also putting their house on the market and moving out west. They were doing their darndest to get Steve and Gary, to rework their resumes to see if they could come out west too. A couple years ago I would have jumped at the idea. Now I don't want to go. I don't want to stay here, but I don't want to go out west either. I don't know what I want. Yes, I do, but I'm not even going to go into that... Let's just say that moving to Washington is not high on my list of priorities right now. Besides that, we could never get Ruger all the way to Washington, we can barely get him to the vet without him barfing all over the place and that's less than 3 miles. I don't think I really have to worry about it, Steve seemed excited about the prospect, but I've been married to him long enough to know he won't do anything about it, so I don't know why I even mentioned it.

As far as WheatField's goes... Yum! This same guy used to own the Garden Cafe here in town (there used to be quite a few, but now there's only one left). His wife is a police lieutenant or captain, or something. Anyway, they have the BEST food. Yum! I had an bacon and egg stratta and Steve had quiche. It was great! We went about 10, which was a good time to go, by 12:30 when we left there were about 40 people in line and cars parked all the way down the street. Good place.

I had a photography class yesterday, it was fun, I really enjoyed it. You know me though, as the day approached I got more and more apprehensive about going, and almost talked myself out of it. I'm glad I didn't. I learned a lot about my camera and taking better pictures, so it was well worth the money. The same guy teaches a class at Metro that I'd love to take, but unfortunately the class was offered this quarter (which has already started) and next quarter it's not offered. It was offered in the evening this time too, which wouldn't have worked. He works a full time day job, so I doubt it'll be offered in the day for fall or winter either. My luck just bites lately. Next weekend I have a Photoshop class and that one I am really looking forward to. I was planning on getting Photoshop elements next week, but that's been derailed because the vacuum went belly up yesterday. Do you see what I mean about my luck? It's not that big of a deal, I can always get it later, I just wanted it next week. I'm such a whiner...

I was going to babysit Ryan last night, but Candace decided to stay in, so that didn't happen. I just enjoyed a quiet evening at home. The apartments where Steve and I lived when we first got married had a huge fire yesterday afternoon. The actual building we lived it was right across the parking lot from the one that caught on fire, I'm going to go up there this afternoon, it's only about 6 blocks away, and see if I can't get some pictures. It was a bad fire, but luckily no one got hurt.

I just realized I put the wrong date on the bulletin for today - oops. I guess they can consider it an early April Fool's present... I hope the Bishop has a sense of humor.

I think mom and Bob are coming over to watch The Bee Movie tonight. I started watching it the other night, but fell asleep, so I have no idea if it was any good or not, the preveriews looked good anyway.

Amber has started a blog about life with baby, if you get a chance, check it out, you can find it here.

Well, I'm going to go get some pictures. Later.
