Beautiful Saturday

Mother Nature was toying with us again today. It was 63 degrees. I can't wait until days like this are the rule rather than the exception. I figure maybe one more good winter storm before we can count on it being nice all the time. My grandpa's birthday was on March 22, and we had blizzards on his birthday more than once, so I never feel "safe" until then.

Steve's truck is turning to rust before our eyes, so today we went out and test drove a 2008 Toyota Tundra - NICE! The only thing not so nice is the price - $32,000! Youch. I think we've been spoiled because neither one of us has had a car payment for years. I think we paid off my car 4 years ago and his was paid off before then, so the thought of forking over at least $650 a month hurts a little bit. At least it would be him forking it out and not me... Although I have to say I do like the look of the Prius - but I'm not going for a car payment right now either. And the taxes - whew. No, thanks. The tax and license on the Tundra would be over $3000. So much for their $2500 cash back incentive! He still wants to look at Ford trucks before he decides, and he doesn't think Toyota has a good enough warranty, so, we'll see. We went and looked at some used ones tonight, but the dealership was closing, so we have no idea how much they were - might sell more cars if they'd update their website once in awhile.... Hello - Performance Ford? I'm talking to YOU!

The RS President came over tonight and gave me my list of people to do visiting teaching for. Thank goodness they gave me a list where I can write to the sisters I have on my list and I don't have to worry about a companion to check schedules with, etc. I haven't been very diligent in my teaching, it seems like my companions have either been as inactive as I am, or we couldn't find a time that would work for both of us. This will be pretty nice. As a matter of fact, I might just hammer out my letters tonight and be done with it!

I also got some sad news while the RS president was here, one of the sisters in our ward that I used to visit teach with has Alzheimer's. That really made me sad, she is the nicest lady. Nobody deserves Alzheimer's. Nobody. I hate to think of all the families going through what we went through with my grandma, it really just makes me want to cry. This sister is still living on her own, but who knows how much longer that will last. She's widowed and had been dating a widower in the ward for years, but they never got married, even though he asked her, and now she wants to, but he can't afford it. Sad. At least he's still there to take care of her.

Ah well. I'm going to get those letters done and I have a bunch of CDs I want to download onto iTunes, so that's it for today...

Later.

Same old stuff

I know I shouldn't dwell on this, really, but... Slugatha came back to work today after being off for 6 weeks because her back was hurting. (Hello, can we say chronic pain syndrome? I haven't missed a much work in years as she's missed in the past 12 months - and that's including the time I took off for a shattered ankle and 3 surgeries.) Yeah, she was back to work all right. Same crap, different day. She logged in on time, but didn't do a darn thing before 11 p.m. Gah. The only consolation is that she's supposed to work this weekend, so all the crap she didn't do earlier tonight is still going to be waiting for her allllllll weekend. I'm fully expecting her to decide she needs surgery now that she's back to "work" again. There goes another 6 week. Actually, I've been working fine without her. For some reason just knowing she's there is annoying. It's like having something stuck in your teeth and no toothpick for miles, or having an itch you can't scratch, or.... Well, you get the idea. I bet she's a democrat. You know, one of those, give me money because I'm here, type of people. Not the pay me what I'm worth type of people. Heck, if they paid her what she was worth, she'd owe them money.

Okay, enough of that. I worked until 4:30 this morning, slept until 3 p.m. and then worked from 3:15 until midnight. Am I tired? I'm so punchy it's not even funny! An entire day of work is NOT fun. I was supposed to work 8 p.m. to 4:30 a.m. again tonight and originally started working at 3:15 just to get some OT hours in. Then the hospital called with a report they needed right away and I just kept working. I though 5 hours or so of OT would be great on the paycheck. Then when I realized how it was going to go tonight I figured there was no way I was working until 4:30. No thank you. Then I realized it's going to be 60 degrees tomorrow, who wants to be sleeping until mid-afternoon! I bailed.

So, I have nothing else in my life to write about except work. In my brother's life, however, he's having a great time in NYC. He went to a place called Tea & Sympathy today. I checked out their website (which I'm too lazy to look up and link to right now). It looked yummy! He sent me a picture of his dessert - chocolate banana cake with custard sauce, it looked divine! I wish I had his metabolism! He went to Rockefeller Center too and took some good pictures. I love living vicariously through my well-traveled brother! It's a lot cheaper than going myself! ;-)

This baby thing... It's killing me...lol

I already said I watched Vince today. It was wonderful. I can't tell you how wonderful. I'm sappy. I love new baby smells - yes, even THOSE smells. I can't believe how much he's changed in 4 weeks. He's gone from being a red wrinkly little guy to a pink little guy whose fingers are filling out and has face has filled out. He's just so freaking cute! I've been so blessed to have such great nieces and nephews (and nieces and nephews-in-law, too) who let me take care of their babies. It's been so long since I've been around really little ones, I've forgotten how much it is.

Of course now I can leave and go home when they get fussy or make a big mess in their pants. I can hand them over to mom or dad, it's not my responsibility any more! LOL! Is that great or what? I have to admit though, I did have a hard time leaving Vince today to come back home. He was sleeping so peacefully and I was just watching his little face. It just reinforces to me that there is a God and he's wonderful!

On the subject of baby faces, I just love to watch them as they sleep, how they make those little sucking motions with their lips, and they smile, and sigh... The only thing I can't stand is when they're sleeping and their eyes are halfway rolled up in their head and then they open their eyes. It gives me the willies (and the Hermans and the Freds - that's for you Mel!) But otherwise, I'll take them any day. I hope Amber and Jason really take advantage of this time with Vince - even if they have 10 other kids, the first one is always special because they have your undivided attention, there are no other noses to wipe or diapers to change or bottoms to wipe, he's all yours! Spend all the time with him you can and forget everything else. I was really surprised today to realize that Amber goes back to work in only 4 weeks! Time has gone so fast. She's such a good little mama, I'm so proud of her. And Jason rocks as a new dad! I love those guys!

My brother Marc, aka "Buzzcraw" is in the Big Apple with Rick, aka "Falconcraw", for the next 5 days - he sent me some pictures tonight of New York. What a sight! They're going to go see the Today show being taped on Monday, I told him I prefer Good Morning America, but I'll watch Today just to see if I get to see him. They were eating dinner just across the street from the ABC news office, so he sent me a picture. I heart my brother... I'm really looking forward to seeing his pictures. I had to laugh when he told me about his hotel, they upgraded their room to whatever (I can't remember what he sad), but when they got to their new upgraded room he was pretty surprised to find out how small it was, and with no view at all... Welcome to New York! ha ha!

Our weather is supposed to be getting warmer for a bit - 60 degrees on Saturday. As long as we don't turn around and have another blizzard on Monday, I'll be very, very happy....

Later!

Thursday

Amber called about noon today to see if I'd watch Vince while she went to the grocery store - sure! Although I went back to sleep and slept until 1:45! I couldn't sleep when I got off work this morning, I was still up, eating a bowl of Grape Nuts at 7:30, so I don't think sleeping until 1:45 is too far out there.

I love taking care of Vince - he's the perfect age. You can feed him, then he falls asleep in your arms. What a sweetie. I hated to come home, but I have to work sometime! Bah!

The "Craws" are off to Manhattan today - I hope they have a safe journey and a fun time! I'm not so sure I'd ever like to go to New York, so I'll live vicariously through Marc's blogging and pictures.

I guess that's it. I haven't been awake long enough to have anything to say!

Later.

I want this guy's job

This is from a local National Weather Service meteorologist commenting on our upcoming weather for spring, and I quote, "For the next three months, he said, the state has "equal chances of being above or below normal temperature-wise and precipitation-wise." You're kidding! I'm just wondering how much money they pay this guy.

About that Wonderful day yesterday...

Yeah, har har. This is what Mother Nature had in store for us today. When I went to meet Cindy for lunch it was 39 with no wind. Now it's 31 and windy.... And snowing. Oh, did I mention the sleet and the wind chill. Very funny, Mother Nature... Very Funny.

Beautiful Sunday

Ahhhhh....

That's all I can think of to say about the weather today. Let me say it again. Ahhhhhh.... I heard on the weather today that it only got to 49, but the thermometer down the street said 52! It was like summer to me! Okay, not quite summer, but it was beautiful! The sun was shining, it was warm, snow and ice were melting like mad. If I didn't have cabin fever before, I sure do now. Of course the weather that hit California this weekend is going to hit us tomorrow, with some more rain, ice, and snow, but at this point it really can't last for long! In the meantime, I'll bask in the glow of today.

Meg's Green Monster (her Kia) is officially gone. She got a whole $50 for scrap, which is kind of hard to take since she just spent $800 to fix it about 2 months ago. It couldn't be fixed, had to have a new engine, so.... Bye bye green monster.

We went to dad's today to try and get Pam's computer set up, but he's going to go get a Linksys, to get wireless set up. AJ stopped by while we were there - haven't seen him for a bit, so that was a nice surprise. I worked on some more picture frames too, I'm really pleased with the ones I did today, I think they turned out okay. I'm having fun.

Matt and Mirisa stopped by tonight for a little bit. Matt worked the Martina McBride concert last night - the set up and take down. I didn't even realize she was here, I like her music. I wouldn't have gone though, it was at the Qwest Center and I abhor the Qwest - I prefer the MidAmerica Center in Council Bluffs. Tickets are usually less and the parking is much more reasonable - in distance. It's also free to park, even if you don't have a handicap tag! Anyway, I made some little individual bundt cakes tonight. I was so pleased with myself - I had wanted the stoneware pan from Pampered Chef, but it was $33, which I thought was a little high, but PC has a section on their online site of discontinued stuff and I got it for $8! It came the other day, so of course I had to bake something. So tonight I made some little lemon cakes with lemon glaze... Yummy!

I called mom and Bob to see if they wanted to come over, but mom isn't feeling well. I hope it's not the darn flu. Everybody is getting it, even with the shot. It's nasty stuff too, so I'm hoping that's not what she has! 'll have to give her a call tomorrow, if she's not feeling better, some homemade chicken soup may be in order.

Cindy is coming down to Omaha tomorrow to do some shopping, so we're planning on having lunch. I have to get up relatively early - like before 2, if I'm actually going to have lunch! Later!

I love sleeping babies - oh wait a minute...

I forgot, they're not sleeping, they're recharging!

Doesn't he look so angelic?

Don't be fooled, he's his daddy's boy!

But, we had fun having Ryan visit for a few hours.
