Who could ask for anything more?

The weather today was absolutely gorgeous! I got up about 10:30 and after Meg sorted through her clothes to decide what to take to school, what to donate to Goodwill, and what to toss, we decided to spend the afternoon outdoors. We took Ben and Sophie, grabbed some sandwiches from Jimmy John's (Freaky Fast) and headed out to Two Rivers State Park.

It was just beautiful out! Not too many wasps and bees, just a nice breeze blowing and it was about 78 degrees. Perfect. We had taken a spot on the river and there seemed to be a family reunion of some kind going on a couple of campgrounds over. The lure of the dachshund was in full force though and several people came over because they wanted to meet Ben and Sophie. Sophie was being especially cute, driving us nuts with wanting to chase the ball, chase the ball, chase the ball.... Turns out it wasn't a family reunion, but some kind of company gathering and it looked like 99% were from India. The people who came over were all very nice and one couple told us they were looking to buy a house soon and wanted to get a dachshund after they moved. The guy said after work he wanted to come home to a dog with energy! Well then, a dachshund is the dog for him! I told them a little bit about rescue and that we had 7 dogs at our house, so they asked for the rescue's name where we got the dogs. I told them to check on Petfinder and look for 7 Bells Sanctuary in Cole Camp, Missouri. I know she really loaded with dogs right now and having to turn some dogs away because she simply has no room. She has lots of fosters who also have lots of dogs, so if I can steer someone to them to help with the crunch, it would be a good thing for all involved! I hope they find the dog that's looking for them!

Meg had something going on at the Deaf Club tonight, so we came home shortly after 5. I've been lazing about and spending too much time on Facebook tonight! Tomorrow I have some scrapbooking I want to get done after I go to church or take the programs over, or whatever I decide to do. I want to start working on my scrapping more often and keep it up to date, I've really let it go the past year or so.

That's it for tonight. The fresh air this afternoon was wonderful! I'm going to sleep well tonight!

Back to work

Back to work today. I'm about to get started since one person is on vacation and we're probably going to have mandatory OT anyway. I make more when I work later, but I probably type faster when I'm more awake!

Steve and Meg both had to go to the doctor unexpectedly today. I'm waiting to hear back from both of them to find out what's going on. I'm hoping Meg didn't catch mono while she was at scout camp being surrounded by hundreds of teenagers, but I wouldn't be surprised.

Yesterday I didn't get as much done in the spare room as I would have liked, but I did make progress. I probably didn't purge enough, since I decided to keep the two tall book cases - you know what that means... I decided to keep too many books! But I did find a whole boxful and maybe more that I've put aside for the garage sale. Anything that doesn't go at the garage sale is going to Goodwill. Mom always says, "I'll save it for another garage sale", or maybe, "I forgot how much I liked this..." Not me, when I've decided it goes to a garage sale, if it doesn't sell there, it's history. I have a confession to make about that though, I was at Goodwill a couple weeks ago and I think I bought one of my own things back. Oops. I think I don't have that purging thing down pat yet... Heh heh...

There's rain in the forecast - finally. I thought after the wet spring and early summer that I wouldn't be looking forward to more rain, but it's been pretty dry lately and we've had to start to water the flowers and trees, so some help from Mother Nature would be appreciated.

We had to start Jojo on some heart medicine last week. I can't believe the change in him. He's really pepped up. It's so hard when a dog gets older and starts to slow down, I'm never sure if it's just aging or if there's something medically wrong with them. Jojo had developed a bad cough though, so I took him in and they did some x-rays. His heart was a little enlarged and his lungs had some congestion, so they put him on a couple heart medications and he's been acting like a new dog! He's still coughing, hopefully that will clear up, but he's been running around, where he used to just ga-lump, ga-lump around, so I'm sure he feels better. His appetite has been off a little, but I bought him some softer food this week and he appetite has picked up too. Probably his mouth and teeth (what's left of them) were having trouble with the kibble. Even with milk on it he was having problems. I'm relieved he's feeling better. Now if I could just his his breath to smell better.... It smells like an outhouse - I'm not kidding. Even after a full dental it still smells! Ugh.

Okay then, on to work. Maybe I'll have more news later.

Saturday In Wausa

Busy, busy weekend

It's been a busy weekend! It's Iowa State Fair time, so on Friday Steve and I took the day off and headed to Des Moines for the day. It was a gorgeous day for the fair - apparently everyone felt the same way we did. The drive from Omaha to DM took about 2 hours and going the 2 miles from the interstate to the fairgrounds took another 2 hours. That was a little frustrating. I'm still not sure why, there were a couple promotions going on, the first 300 to the fair got free admission and a corn dog, John McCain was at the fair, and while we were waiting in line we were passed by 3 ambulances going the same direction as us, then 3 came back our direction, so I don't know if there was an accident or what, but apparently one or all 3 events conspired against us making a quick entry to the fairgrounds. I knew we were in trouble when we had to stop while we were still on the interstate! We moved pretty quickly for the first half hour or so and then we just were at a virtual standstill for the next hour or so. Steve finally pulled into the lane next to us, which seemed to be moving a little faster, just so we could get to Walgreen's and get some sun screen. I had forgotten mine at home and I was going to get some when we got there. It did move us up a little more quickly since were were able to get on a cross street and then cut into the line about 12-15 block ahead of where we had been. It was too late for the sunscreen though, I was already burned on my right arm just from waiting in line!

Once we got in we had a good time. They rearranged some of the exhibits and rides this year, but they were all changes for the better. One thing I didn't see that I usually love were the modular homes. They usually set up 2 or 3 for people to go through. I love going through them, I'm addicted to going through model homes for sale at home as well, but I didn't see any this year. We don't to rides, but I loved looked at the quilt exhibit, having my pork chop on a stick, and just having fun doing some people watching. The Budweiser Clydesdales were at the fair on Friday too - they are beautiful animals! They had a butterfly tent set up this year, but we forgot about it until we were on our way out and by that time I was exhausted, sunburned, and just wanted to get to the car! Hopefully, it will be there next year and we can see it then.

Yesterday we went to to Wausa, Nebraska, a booming metropolis of about 600 people. Steve's Aunt Lois turned 88 this week, and her kids were having a birthday part for her, so we went to visit. It's north of Norfolk, so it's about a 2 to 2-1/2 hour drive. I'm so glad we went. Lois is very frail and has had several strokes this year. She was very alert and recognized everyone. She lives in the nursing home and her husband lives in the assisted-living center (he's 93), so they don't get to see each other very often. Their faces just lit up when they saw each other yesterday. Harry, her husband, was so cute, he helped her open her cards and packages and he gave her a kiss after she we all sang happy birthday to her. I think it's so sweet to see such elderly couple still so much in love with each other. If I get a chance, I'll post some pictures.

Anyway, that takes us to Sunday, today. I'm cleaning up the room that's been collecting junk for the past couple months. Purging - trying to decide what to save, what to toss, and what to put in a pile for a garage sale. Decisions, decisions! But right this minute I think I'll take a break to run out and get some carpet shampoo - I have some serious shampooing to do! Later!
